How our budget is spent
To give you an overview of Aberdeenshire’s finances, the council receives a share of money from Scottish Government which meets around 80% of our budget and the rest is made up of council tax, fees and charges. This annual sum is normally over £500 million and is used to fund all council services and activity.
It is important to understand that the council’s capital budget is separate from the revenue budget. The capital budget is spent on fixed assets such as new buildings or roads and is financed through a mixture of the sale of existing assets, borrowing, or from capital grants.
Further information on the council's capital works programme (also know as the capital plan) can be found on our website.
